( by the rim of the Vulcano’s crater la Fossa, Aeolian Islands)
sculpture in bronze and sulfur, chemical elements and gases of the vucan in collaboration with the INGV volcanologist Francesco Sortino - performer Greta Mavica ph_Davide Jay Pompejano
HEAT & SOLITUDE
are the chemical and emotional reactions, internal and external, of Federica Di Carlo's performance. Drawing inspiration from the samplings of volcanologists and the myth of the God Vulcan who gives the name to the island, the performance "Heat and Solitude" wants to measure with a scientific and an artistic gesture the condition of solitude of today's society compared to the natural one of the volcano. The same solitude destined for the artist during the creation as for the volcanologist in a scientific monitoring, merge with the gases, vapors and minerals to transform in front of the public in a six-handed work.
the artist realizes through collaboration with volcanologist INGV the possibility of a sulfur melt with which he makes the right foot of the installation. The left one is made of bronze and moults with the chemical agents of the volcano that evengono injected to it from the tubes connected directly with the volcanic subsurface.
